I continue to have trouble getting too worked up about this. If you’re willing to write for free (or do anything for free) then companies are going to be happy to take that free or nearly-free labor. Don’t do things for free and this corrects itself.

There are many examples of instances where language has been bastardized and usage experts have finally just said, okay, fine, since everyone does it wrong, that’s now sort of what it means.
