Yes, it can be cheaper to use U-Haul for some trips, since they charge $19.95 + $0.49/km for 24 hours, I just have a HD close to me and they have good hours. Also, U-Haul only has half-ton trucks with 8ft beds, while HD offers 1-ton trucks with utility beds, so you can choose whichever rental will quit your needs

Regarding the “community truck”...just rent a truck from Home Depot and avoid all the headaches you’re bound to face.

Out of curiosity I tried to book a rental van near the Amazon distribution center in Mississauga, Ontario. U-Haul will not allow you to schedule a vehicle, it’s first come first served. Discount Rentals does not have any vans or moving trucks available to rent for the whole of the Greater Toronto Area next week. I

My family always puts snow tires on, but we have the benefit of our father being a mechanic, so we get decent discounts and I have a hoist at my disposal to swap them whenever I feel like it.

Not counting freight or taxes, I’ve found that Canadian cars often have a lower MSRP than an equivalent American car. I remember when the Focus RS came out that the Canadian MSRP was $8000 cheaper when you accounted for exchange rates.
