I think the four year gap had a lot to do with it. That’s a long time to stay at the forefront of the popular consciousness without any new material. Glover himself has been slightly more productive, but neither of the two movies he did in 2019 were that well-received critically, and those were his last acting gigs.

Directors doing the press circuit to sell the GRIT and INTENSITY of their PG-13 movie is the most tedious thing about modern blockbuster filmmaking. This tired little routine where they do some work on behalf of the studio’s marketing department to sell the 18-34 audience that this film about a character routinely

Sure he does. People take way less than their labor is actually worth all the time, it’s one of the big issues of our time and part of the whole minimum wage conversation. It’s not insulting to say that they should be paid more, it’s insulting that they don’t get paid fair wages from the jump, even if they’re

I think that’s because J.J. Abrams, who took over again after, also had no idea what happens next because he’s kind of a hack and only knows how to ape what came before without really adding anything innovative.

Multiple fine endings! I’m as big a fan of the show as anyone, but I just can’t see another revival going well, even if they could get DiMaggio back. It hit a few high points in the last revival but was mostly mediocre and that’s probably the absolute best case scenario for this one.

Two fine endings!

Arguably that’s because even the people writing the movies didn’t know what was going to happen next, or even who would be writing the next one.

Things should be allowed to end.
Futurama had a fine ending.  Time to just let it rest.

My hope was that at the end of TLJ that Kylo Ren had become the Big Bad, ala Ulic Qel-Droma from the old comics, going full conqueror mode like an evil Alexander the Great.

There was a point in final act of the Last Jedi where I realized that I had no idea what was going to happen next. That’s a feeling I had never felt before with Star Wars, and I haven’t felt it since. Just because of that, TLJ was my favorite SW media since ESB.

The crazy thing too is all those hits were in the 80s. As you point out he’s not really been the star of anything worthwhile since 1989.

Bill Murray’s insult to him backstage at SNL (which gave me my screenname) may be the most insightful thing that’s ever been said about him. He’s done some great stuff, no doubt, but his entire career has been a repeating theme of coasting on his initial SNL fame, followed by one hit, then coasting on that for a

I have to say that I’ve known some truly terrible people who have all said things along the lines of “I am who I am” and “it’s part of me that I don’t care” as a response to criticism of their behavior.

I was such a Cross booster since I discovered Mr. Show in my early teens. His Shutup You Fucking Baby double (CD’s) got 100's of plays in anything I owned with a disk drive and speakers. I felt as if he was speaking what I couldn’t find the words to say. It was mean and biting and raw. His turn in Arrested Development

Chappelle’s claim that the town council was trying to making him “audition” is the kind of smug peevishness that seems to characterize his personality these days”

It’s like when he made those high school kids go to an assembly so he could yell, “You don’t fucking know me!” at them.

dave chappelle is just a normal guy who controls a small town like a supervillain.

When people oppose affordable housing, they often do it for reasons other than distaste for poorer people. Instead, they raise the kinds of concerns Chappelle is voicing here: the development is not consistent with the character of the neighborhood, or it won’t be aesthetically pleasing, or it will increase traffic,

The homeless residents of Yellow Springs will continue to be homeless but at least they won’t be bothered by “cookie-cutter” developments while being homeless.

Look, if you’re gonna make a predictable, formulaic rom-com, at least do it with a likable cast who looks like they’re having fun making the movie. This totally nails that vibe, so I’m in. Loving the R rating too!
