Save this for the inevitable (?) Shop Contest

Please see my responses to other commenters; I meant I didn't see it coming because Satoru Iwata repeatedly said, and said again just two weeks ago, there would be no price cut. Besides, as horribly as Nintendo has handled this new console from start to present, I had no reason to expect they'd finally do something

Haha. I admit I am a fanboy, but I'm a realist. Wii U will probably sell 25 million consoles LIFETIME, and that is a very optimistic guess. I just want it to succeed enough for five or six years' worth of software support.

Firstly, I did not expect this because Nintendo (Iwata) repeatedly said there would be no price cut, period, as recently as two weeks ago:

Because you don't buy a Wii U to play the games you can get on a PS3 or 360. You buy a Wii U to play games from Nintendo.

I'm of the mind that people who, like me, want or bought a Wii U are not as interested in a PS4 or XB1 as most other gamers. I will eventually buy a PS4 to play next-gen titles. But anyone who thinks Wii U is seriously competing with PS4 or XB1 is out of their minds. This console will, at best, sell 25 million

I certainly don't think an ambassador program is in the cards here. I can dream...

My point is that this will lower the barrier of entry for people who were considering the Wii U but were put off by the high price relative to the available software. Look, no one realistically expects the Wii U to compete with PS4 or XB1. It is, at best, a supplemental console for hardcore gamers or an all-purpose

Maybe I'm naive, but I was going by what Satoru Iwata said again and again and again over the course of the year, most recently on August 11:

I did NOT expect this. CRITICAL move by Nintendo, HUGE, game-changer, etc. There is still hope for Wii U.

I'm baffled... without the folding factor, it seems the kids target demo would be *more* likely to scratch / break the screens.

There's a reason there exist Nintendo fanboys like me: Nintendo makes really amazing games and great hardware. I love my 3DS and play on it almost every day. I'm less than thrilled with my Wii U, but I don't regret buying it and still wouldn't even if support for it ended next year.

I'm guessing in many cases, people who can afford to build such things can also afford to bribe the government officials who should be preventing it.

It was rushed, plain and simple. They want to have it established in time for Xmas. And as I mentioned elsewhere, they cancelled new Star Wars and Iron Man games for this garbage! It's a shameless cash grab. I hope it fails spectacularly.

Add to this the fact that Disney decided to rush this Skylanders rip-off cash grab in lieu of new Star Wars and Iron Man games, and the circle of Disney fail is complete.

I sure hope so! I haven't played it yet (won't have time until this weekend, really).

Thanks, Jason, for the mention! Here's what I wrote on Saturday when I ran over to GameStop to willingly participate in the dubious restocking of Xenoblade.

It was $250 a few weeks ago, when I last checked. I'm a collector and had been considering getting a copy, but waited for the prices to come down.

You could likely get a Wii cheaper than the game!
