Pigs get fat, hogs get slaughtered. The ad blitz this fall is a perfect illustration, but I don’t blame these companies for getting a little greedy. I’m not rooting for them to fail but I’m not going to cry over never seeing those dumb ads again either.

That wasn’t even Bennett’s best quote on Sunday. When the kicker made a Jordan reference Bennett turned around and said he needs to talk less about Jordan, more about Steve Kerr.

This team is young and fun to watch, and winning 90+ games is a big enough surprise around here that people are ready to go nuts at the slightest hint of something magic happening. Let’s get the playoffs started already!

Absolutely right, and if you do it a few times you can tailor the ratios according to your taste in pie too. I go a little heavier on the allspice, I like the extra oomph it gives the pie. Just don’t add too much more, you don’t want it to turn the texture gritty. It’s October. That’s late enough for a pumpkin pie in

I feel cheated we didn’t get any shots of Bears’ fans collapsed over the railing like we’re getting in every other college game this season. Speaking as a Bears’ fan and ND grad, I get a perverse pleasure out of rooting against Jimmy Clausen. That guy flat out cannot play.

Next time I’m job searching I’ll be taking the entire day off to interview, thank you very much. I started wearing blazers at my last job and got some suspicious glances. And this was a shirt and tie kind of place already. I joked about ‘dressing for the job you want, not the one you have’ trying to explain it away.

This didn’t surprise me too much but I was surprised the number was so big. But when you think about it, there are enough high-rent areas where ownership is rare that it probably weights the average in buying’s favor.

It looked like there were plenty of other teams’ fans there perfectly happy to also look like idiots. Yeesh.

A newborn’s fingernails are like tiny little hypodermic lightsabers. They’re not even organic, they’re some horrible hybrid of everything sharp you’ve avoided your entire life.

Not if they’re still going to the gym. Fuck these people.

My first successful haggle is still my favorite, got a bike shop to agree to knock $200 off their listed price for an older model single speed. Had some good fortune buying our first place at less than it was appraised at a few years ago too, I just wish some of that had rubbed off as we try to negotiate selling it

Zing!

Ah, that’s fantastic! My favorite part of visiting Yellowstone was the crystal clear realization of “holy shit, we are actually in the wild here” about half a day into a camping trip after college. As a city boy I greatly enjoyed it and can’t wait to take my family on something similar.

And if I lived in the area and knew which groomers, I know which one I’d be going to from now on. B/c that’s good press, vs the bad press Longhorn is getting for firing their good person of a waiter. I’ve never understood how the bad press from firing someone for doing something good is outweighing the bad press you

As the lone progeny and a non-armed city dweller in a family of NRA enthusiasts, I’d be interested to hear about some follow up on how this goes! I don’t think I stand to inherit a bus but I would imagine something similar. An RV, maybe.

Wow. This made me feel a lot better about being a Bears fan this year. I think I needed that.

I like the modular Ikea legs b/c you can re-attach them to new tops as you need. I ended up putting old legs on two slabs of oak I found and gave a quick sand & polish. Best desk ever; so clean and fits with the rest of our stuff perfectly.

I ended up going on a ton of interviews actually, through out that whole period. Thought I was close a whole bunch of times but only ended up getting a few offers which I turned down. I think I got better at interviewing; once I honed what I was talking about things seemed to click.

Great point. I wouldn’t wish getting fired on most people, but surviving my own unemployment left me feeling like a much more capable and resourceful person. I was proud of how I handled it and really learned a lot.

I got laid off in Nov of 2009 and it took until July of 2010 to find a permanent position. I went through it all; depression, getting comfortable staying home all day in a Chicago winter, hating but enjoying the time off, but through it all I kept sending out apps and resumes. It helped that I filled for unemployment
