Because “big government” just means the government doing something you don’t like. It’s like all the people who protest against government interference in Medicare.

No shit. if you ever find yourself in East Tennessee, you will be amazed at the overwhelming majority of government employees through Oak Ridge, TVA, and the various University of Tennessee entities who don’t even realize where their pay checks are coming from. They claim to detest big bad gubmit, especially when a

The phrase “Big Government” kills me every time I hear it, not because I’m opposed to it, but because talk of reducing the size of the federal government is fucking ridiculous. We’re the 4th largest country in the world by land mass. The 3rd largest by population. The largest by GDP. The government is the size it is

Amen. I agree with you on all points. My family is in the same way. In fact the company I work for stands to benefit from govt deregulation, so in theory I stand to benefit financially from smaller govt. Having said that I also boggles my mind that the unwashed, uneducated masses simply cannot wrap their heads around

What radical conclusions, that they believed in the things that the candidate they proudly cast their vote for said out loud? Come the fuck on. Also, they won. Why do we need to understand them? When Hillary won the primaries, all her voters (and her) were met with the demand that they understand the Bernie voters.

Everyone’s point is not equally valid and my life is getting shorter by the minute.

What little patience I held for NPR has evaporated since about Columbus Day, for this very reason.

Because I am the executive determiner of my opinions, and I decree my belief that people who voted for and currently support Donald Trump are racists, and racists are people I refuse to engage with.

I didn’t say that, though.

Engaging with people to get them to explain why racism is okay legitimizes the notion that racism is okay.

Funny, I don’t see myself saying anything about Libya or Obama specifically.

Well, I think that’s kind of a misconstrued comparison. While I’m sure that some people did vote for Clinton entirely out of their own interests, they didn’t hurt anyone else through their support (at least they didn’t hurt anyone who wouldn’t have been equally hurt under Trump. Clinton is a war hawk, that is true,

Where did I say anyone was irredeemable? Please stop making things up.

That is not a thing I said. You are literally making things up.

I think that because I understand the definition of racism. Racists somehow don’t believe they’re racist. Shocking, I know.

What you wrote resonates with me. I read an article about Trump voters in Kentucky who depend on ACA. They knew ACA (Kynect or whatever) was Obamacare. What they were upset about was that other people were getting insurance for less because of medicaid expansions. They felt entitled, as “hard workers” to have better

Well, but what if they are racist? Am I not allowed to say anything just because they also happen to be a Trump supporter?

I have recently ventured into the world of Stupid People, not in service of understanding Trump voters but that has been a byproduct of the experience.

Because having people attempt to justify their vote for a person who views me as less than a human is not constructive. What could I possibly gain from that? Am I going o come away convinced that their lack of regard for my humanity is reasonable?

I live around people who voted for Trump and I know many of them will not want to listen to me. I’m an American Indian woman with a Hispanic last name. I’m also well educated and a feminist. There are so many things I am that is wrong to them.
