Bah, it's a crutch for those who are not 80's-tastic enough to be able to execute a perfect Top Gun Hi/Lo five regardless of the other party's ability level. If you haven't sized up the other person's arm and swing radius before you started, well, you're gonna crash and burn my friend. Why? Because you're reckless…
I'm sure that's an option if the instructor thinks you're getting cocky :).
I'm pretty sure Thomas is dropping a load of coal on the tracks in that lead photo...
They are pneumatically actuated by an instructor in the passenger's seat. When I did it years ago the instructor would say "this will simulate ice" or "this is full traction" or whatever.
Skid Car Schools. Experience is a major factor, and this is a controlled version. Much safer than heading out and bouncing off snowbanks as practice.
Would I take a One-77 to the Ring? Oh hell yeah. I'd stuff a freakin' jet engine up the tailpipe, light that isht off and make sure "flugplatz" truly lived up to its name if I made it that far around. That would be fun as hell!
Rennie: @Iceman - please look after the vodka temperatures, they need to be very cold
The random car noises he makes in the background during the race help keep me up when things get a little dull :).
I maintain that we need a Jalopnik HallGarage-of-Fame. I'll also take this moment to nominate Junkman as the initial inductee (previous calls for candidates taking a backseat to Junkman since he hangs around these parts).
While I'd not buy much there (I prefer getting tools I know will last and work), I did buy a bench top parts bin thing for storing various bits (http://www.harborfreight.com/parts-rack-with-removable-bins-95496.html). Works great, was cheap, doesn't have to be the greatest quality in the world as long as it doesn't…
Happy Birthday!
If the finder is smart we'll never hear about it...
My first experience at RA was as a passenger in one of the Panoz GT-RA school cars. I'd karted for a while at that point so going up through 1, 2 wasn't much. The esses didn't faze me (though the exit up the hill was cool swinging wide over the rumble strips onto that pass through area). 6 was faster than I…
I typically rode the S-Bahn to the Isator and then just walked it from there during O'fest. I used to live just to the Southeast of Munich, and it provided some needed exercise to go with the beer and pretzels. Oh how I miss those pretzels. Very aware of the Dachau O'fest as well. The issue is more with the…
I would have put Munich's above Paris if we're allowed to include the S-Bahn lines. I found it cleaner, more efficient and easier to understand (I also found it easier to understand quickly than the NYC system, despite Munich's system being all in German...).
Best of luck, but even more so, thank you for your service! What type of racing are you looking to do and where are you planning to base your racing out of?
DD: R8, I've heard from owners it is one of the few supercars you can comfortably DD.
Ha, that's what you get when you use cone rubbers instead of springs :p
