Coming soon from TimF101, The Boy Who Toked With Chilis.

He wasn’t just wrong, he was spectacularly wrong. There is a smartphone OS with “2% or 3%” of the market, but it’s not from Apple; it’s from Microsoft.

I think the best response is no response. That would be much better than Ek’s childish response with I suspect will be laughed at much as we can laugh at Ballmer’s head-in-the-sand response now.

Everyone who starred Blob’s comment should feel ashamed.

At the GE Reports link at the end of this article, you’ll see that the “shield” (or “nose,” as GE calls it) does rotate.

One tip that helps a little: if hold the phone so the home button is higher than the camera (sort of upside down, though when you’re lying on your side in bed, upside down is a bit meaningless), the phone won’t rotate in and out of landscape mode, making videos a bit easier to watch.

If you disable rotation, then videos will play in portrait mode on an iPhone. That’s why I’d like to see change: I’d like to be able to disable rotation, for better reading, but still have videos play in landscape mode. Right now, if I switch from reading to watching a video, I have to turn off orientation lock, then

I want the video to play in landscape. If not automatically, at least have a control I can tap to do that without having to unlock my phone.

Just one itty bitty feature: When playing a video, fill the screen, even when my phone is locked to portrait orientation.

Don’t scratch that last part. If profit motive drives breakthroughs like this, all of mankind will be better off. Don’t begrudge progress just because someone makes a buck.

A new article linked to this one.

I’m going to knock it, and never try it.

It summons Charlie, Crasher of iPhones.

Hmm, maybe it's not such a good idea to let government get involved with our healthcare.

I imagine this would be rife with abuse. What is that value of Google’s search algorithms? You could value it in the billions. Have Google’s algorithms caused anyone’s death? I am skeptical, but with billions in the line, you can bet someone would argue it has.

I don't see a floating river. All I see is a schooner.

Don’t get them started on that U2 album.

That’s not my preferred definition, it’s the New Oxford American Dictionary (the one that Apple inconsiderately forced upon me) definition.

Is it really “extremely unpleasant,” which is the definition of “obnoxious”? I agree it shouldn’t be necessary, but I was able to move it quickly and, with just minimal follow up therapy, deal with the post traumatic stress rather easily. I’m not trying to excuse Apple, just add a dose of reality to the claims of

I agree with much of what you said, but I’d substitute “mildly inconvenient” for “obnoxious”.
