It was called the Pariah Dog and I heard you could kill it if you shot it enough times. There was all sorts of random encounters in that game that you could stumble upon or might not ever stumble upon.
I would like a clip of that scene where they open the door that is on an outside wall and it opens into a hallway, but they pass the camera through a window and show that it is just a wall and then pass it back and forth. Could be done with a green screen easily.
The only way that I know that it is like a TV show is that it has multiple volumes and will be released in "seasons". It's pretty good so far.
I skipped it because of the near unanimous hate. I really love "House of Leaves" and am enjoying The Familiar so far. Can't wait to start Volume 2.
One other good part of the book that wasn't in the movie is during Karen's interview segment. I think she was Jewish and Henry was Catholic or protestant or whatever. She says that when they got married he had to get circumcised and wear a diaper for a week.

If you are a fan of Graham Yost's work, check out the first season of Boomtown. It's a tad bit too network-TVesque, but it's really good.
