This was my takeaway too, dude looks 40 for sure.

Already got free Wi-Fi on one of my flights last week, so assumed I had missed this announcement . I have a subscription I share with friends/family, but on one of the flights it just asked for my skymiles number and connected without logging in to our GoGo Wi-Fi account. Glad they’re finally making free Wi-Fi happen,

No need for the insults. We’re talking about different things. You’re talking about short shuttle service, I’m talking about long haul bus lines. That coach you don’t mind for 100 minutes is like how a regional jet isn’t bad for 100 minutes (we’ll just have to agree to disagree that a 4-across coach is somehow nicer

I fly first class on Delta. There are no not-shit busses. The fundamental reality is a motorcoach must be cramped, loud, and smelly. 4 seats and an aisle in a space barely wider than a suburban? Not gonna be fun. RV chemical toilet used by 40 plus people? It’s gonna get full or clogged. Show me anyone running a bus

Many places do a good job. In hindsight, it should have been obvious that trains need to connect to airports, but oil and car companies really did a great job convincing society that the car was the best, logical future for transport. I love cars, but they’re shit for transport. They’re fun to work on, sound cool, fun

Must be nice. That’s not what greyhounds or megabuses are like, and there are far worse busses (chinatown bus anyone?). two Amtrak seats are literally wider than the entire passenger cabin of a coach, there’s no why cramming yourself into a seat on a motorcoach with a restroom that inevitably stinks up the whole place

Definitely with you. A proper rail system could replace all the “spokes” in the “hub and spoke” airline model. Airports should be required to be connected to high speed rail and regional transportation systems, and any “flight” under 500 miles should be a 300+ kph rail journey. Not going to happen because as a society

The sad truth is even a plane ordered for 2030 delivery is a quicker solution than building out a rail network. Even if airlines were able to think beyond the plane, it would cost more and take longer to implement better solutions. We need at least an interstate highways act sized federal response to even start

Better than United or American is a low bar though, neither of them are actually airlines. Seriously they make their money selling miles to credit card companies and only operate the planes at a loss so the miles have value.

This. The last time there was really an Antarctic cruise season was 2019-2020, so there’s never really been a tik-tok Antarcitc cruise season before. Add in the rogue wave incident recently and you’ve got plenty of ingredients to cook an algorithmic hot spot.

Feels more and more like we’re going to end up nostalgic for the era when shows at least got DVD releases. A few years ago I never would have imagined that. Wild! And not in a good way.

You’re not an idiot. The drake passage is no joke. Only place in the world I’ve ever been seasick, and we didn’t have anything like a rouge wave to worry about!

So can we charge daylight savings time and finally give the “Fall Back” a death sentence? Someone was extra drowsy the week after the clocks made 5am effectively an hour earlier and now 25 people are hurt. While I’d prefer a perpetual 8pm or later sunset, I don’t really care all that much how we set the clocks as long

I think the biggest issue is how few drivers there are in F1 at all. 20 drivers with an average career of 5+ years means we at best get 4 new entries per year. Should 2 of those be women? Yes. But realistically there are dozens of drivers who deserve those >4 spots per year, and plenty who already raced looking for a

Fair points, but totally irrelevant in this case. Checo was on the wrong tires and had fallen from 2nd to 6th in the last leg of the race. No pass without Max’s help was possible as Checo was slower than Max and running something like ~3 seconds behind him on the last lap. Max should have slowed for his teammate, but

I was and he was. Definitely fun when a house call for an acting up furnace/boiler gets pushed back several times due to snowstorms making it unviable to send anyone out! But still a worthwhile trade to get to live somewhere that beautiful

True. Still depends on the level of “blizzard” though. happy to admit there are storms I’m more than happy to stay home during.

Secret knowledge time, if you tell the guys at a checkpoint you have AWD, they’ll wave you past a chain/snow tire checkpoint without a glance at your tires. (I assume this doesn’t work in an obviously 2WD only car like mustang or something, which they still Idiotically rent out all winter long, always fun to count the

Yes and no. On the few days (seriously, we’re talking 0-10 per year) that make driving slowly with 4x4 and truck tires unsafe, most people don’t have a choice but to stay home, and even if they went to their job it wouldn’t be open.

Do/have you lived in a ski town? If it’s snowing bad enough to make 4x4 and decent tires dangerous around town, many roads, the lifts and most other things aren’t open either. “Getting to work” isn’t really a thing those days unless you’re a snow removal crew or emergency worker, in which case you better have chains
