I saw it last night, and he was amazing. He strutted and preened onstage, then often seemed to fold into himself with uncertainty offstage. And his upper lip had a tremble as he talked and tried not to expose his upper teeth.

I second what Citizen Kang said. I saw it Tuesday as I was avoiding watching election night returns, and thought Malek was at his best as Mercury in the concert scenes. He really captures Mercury’s sense of fearlessness and drama as a performer.
I must admit that I didn’t (until now) realize that the movie had been released on 11/2, so thank you for contributing your own review. I’m glad that you enjoyed it!
I thought Malek did a great job and so did my kids and wife. Granted, we’re not expert critics, but I’ve been a Queen fan since high school and I enjoyed Malek’s Mercury far more than I thought I would. As for its authenticity, I didn’t have the pleasure of associating with the Queen frontman so I can’t attest to…
I have one fake tooth and one full veneer that were hand made and hand painted by expert-teeth makers. It's not very glamorous at all, and the fake tooth is uncomfortable
Yeah my understanding is that he’s supposed to be written as a high functioning autistic but that the writers of these show might not have a the most nuanced or accurate understanding of what that means.
That was an extremely helpful distinction (said as someone on the high functioning end of the autism spectrum). Thank you.
From what I’ve gathered from the odd episode here and there the writers do work along those lines with Sheldon, as in 9 times out of 10 he’s not acting out of malevolence (occasionally he does but that’s when someone pissed him off and he wants to get back at them) and it’s explicitly stated that he can’t read…
Eh, I think it’s a fair take based on the description. Basically, there are two kinds of empathy: cognitive empathy and affective empathy. Cognitive empathy is the ability to read and intuit people’s emotional state. Affective empathy is the ability to feel what other people feel, and care about things because other…
Wait what’s all this talk of stinginess? NOPE. Tracy Chapman owns the art that she made. Not just in terms of money, but in terms of her artistic integrity. Fuck out of here with this “stingy” bullshit.
I’m not saying Tracy Chapman isn’t perhaps being a bit stingy, but...
I’m reading the letter and it is solid. I would totally love to write something like it for my research, right click + save.
I’m on the side of the researchers on this one. Children and youth get a lot of ideas (and create their own worldviews) about the world from tumblr/instagram that go unchecked, specifically I’m thinking about all the pro-ana websites that contain a huge amount of misinformation and savvy media content that is for all…
“I’ll come fix all of this when I finish my breakfast, I promise!”
I appreciate that. Please show me you mean it by doing something nice for a stranger.
Actually, many of deadspin’s articles about women athletes are cross posted to Jezebel. You should take a spin over to our side and see it big and bold.
This is also the part of Mexico where women are regularly kidnapped and murdered, from age 6 to 60. The FBI did an investigation and felt it was a “culture of machismo” where jokes about killing women and throwing them in the dump were commonplace. This covers the area from Juarez to Baja. Thousands of women have been…
Those aren’t USA-specific statistics, sadly.
Happens to women all over the world all the time.
This is sad, horrible, and so unbelievable. When will humans ever respect each other and the beauty of life? (I know - rhetorical - never). It’s ever putrid living on this earth.
