Granted I am definitely no expert in the matter, but aren’t 3.73 gears too short for a forced induction engine making this kind of power?

This is also true, but I still get a kick out of some of the poo slinging that tends to ensue with those as well.
I absolutely love all FA articles. But I have to admit sometimes I enjoy reading the comments just as much. Sometimes I learn just as much from the comments, than I do from the articles.
Who knows, maybe. I am just speculating with my prior post after all. I am guessing though that unless the numbers are large enough, that the upgrade program will go to a smaller company. I really don’t see NG pouring millions into R&D in order to update the AN-124 with glass cockpits and update its systems unless it…
Only issue with that, is that I think Boeing, Lockheed Martin and Airbus would probably lobby heavily against it. That and the fact that the U.S. who pays for more than half of NATO’s bills probably wouldn’t want to pay for Antonov aircraft.
People always complain that the FRS/BRZ are underpowered. The only problem is these things happen when you have a lot a power and no real skill behind the wheel. I love fast cars as much as the next guy, but I am pretty sure 662+ horsepower is way too much for me.
From what I have read, it seems like the school is designed for those who would like to learn how to install a supercharger, more than for someone who is interested in actually working in the industry. The problem is that it is not marketed as such. I hear Tuner School I think learning to actually dyno tune vehicles,…
With regards to the poo flinging that ensued in the comments, I understand both points of view. Yes Hennessey has had “questionable” business practices in the past. Yes you were merely reporting the fact that someone had complained on Reddit about his “Tuning” School. The only issue I see is saying that due to the OP…
Amazing pictures, I was about to harp on the fact that they are shutting them down, as well as mothballing the C/Ds and then I saw some of the pictures. Those birds have been put through the ringer. Their skin looks almost wrinkled. I know I am beating a dead horse, but I just wish they would have bought more F-22As…
I jumped for joy when I read that Northrop was awarded the contract. I am a fan of Lockheed and Boeing, but putting all of our eggs in the Lockheed Martin basket was going to be a big no no. Here is hoping they can come in within the time rame and budget on this one.
This is true, but Canada is still quite a bit larger both in regards to longitude and latitude. Canada has vast expanses of territory to protect. I think they would be best serve by the fighter that has the most range and is capable of dealing with such conditions. Come to think of it, were it not for the fact that it…
Sweden and Norway are considerably smaller countries in comparison to Canada. We are talking 148,747 sq mi for Norway and 3,854,085 sq mi for Canada. Sweden is only slightly larger than Norway at 175,896 sq mi. So yeah the Canadians have to deal with a lot larger area to patrol. If It were me I would go with F/A 18E…
So you propose sending bigger, more expensive hardware, endagering even more sailors in the hope that it gets attacked and we get to start WWIII? I just don’t see the logic behind that. The last thing we should do is send a Carrier Strike group near those islands. We are not at war with China. Start with an LCS and go…
Maybe with a rail guns replacing the big 16 inchers. Stationary yes, undefended hardly. I read recently (maybe here) about the posiblity of removing the 16inch guns and simply replacing them with VLS systems. More or less turning the BB into a huge version of an AEGIS Destroyer. Or course you would need to refit it…
I know it is dangerous and all, but wouldn’t getting locked up by all their fire control radars and weapons systems offer an invaluable learning opportunity? At the very least it would allow us to gather EM data on them, no?
From what I am able to tell most of that difference in weight comes from the transmission. The T-56 is one hunking beast of a manual. I think the engine itself would be lighter thought. It would also have a lower center of gravity what with not having the weight up high like the DOHC engines. But yeah the 1UZ engine…
I am not sure about the 1UZ-FE DOHC V8 being lighter. I guess that would depend on the application though. The LS car based engines are all aluminum, aren’t they? The truck ones are Iron block though so it might be true for that aplication.
A couple of things. First the Su-34 seems to be kind of analogous to our F-15E. Yes it seems quite a bit larger in the pictures. Am I wrong? Second, how far can the Russians extend their forces before they are “overextended” as our forces currently are?
I’m not Tyler but I will give it a shot. I don’t believe that the U.S. would be inclined to possibly begin WWIII over a group of armed Syrians that we do not entirely support. It would be akin to having us shoot down a MI-24 during the soviet invasion of Afghanistan because they were bombing the Mujahideen. Just my…
I see this and wonder how long it will take the USAF and USN to decide that they need a Lightning III version in order to fulfill their performance requirements. Great pic, my favorite of the bunch, it reminds me a lot of the F-22 only smaller and chubbier.
