I'd be less concerned that people are objecting to children reading The Hunger Games than I would be about that fact that Brave New World and To Kill a Mockingbird made the list. Seriously? What the fuck parents? They are both classic books. They each teach students different things about the world.
This way thinking is the problem. You are right that things like burnt toast can be bad, but unless you burn the shit out of every piece of toast you ever eat, and do it every day for life, it is in such small quantities that it would take an extremely long time for there to be an effect.
