I agree. I had heard it keeps getting better, and I really wanted it to keep getting better, but the series is front-loaded. Really good all the way through, not complaining, but it does -not- get stronger as it goes.

It's funny you say that about the music - about midway through the episode, I really noticed the music and thought it was perfect. It reminded me of the classic 50s film noir - it really called back a time and place. I can see how people might think it was hackneyed, but to me (on a personal level) it evoked men with

I was living in Portland at the time, and the radio stations really played the heck out of "This is a call." I loved the song, but I remember thinking they'd be a one-hit wonder (the band name didn't help). I was wrong, and I don't mind admitting it, though I'm still not really sold on the band. Growl seems like an

Watched this (never saw the original) tonight & really loved it. It does, though, basically remind me of the first half-dozen issues of Alex + Ada, which I also loved.

If I remember right, the kid's name was very similar, but not identical. I think it was, no lie, Mink or something like that.

I'm always in the minority when it comes to this, but I thought the book was awful. Great idea, though - just poorly executed. And I'm usually a more-than-casual Gaiman fan.

I listen to the "Lonely" disc on Spotify pretty often - what a great time for music. 4AD is usually synonymous with a "buy" rating for me.

Granted. Still, if you listen to "Ride" or "Lysander," that totally coulda been the Beatles, IMO.

Back in the day, I thought that if the Beatles got back together, Robyn should've stood in for John.

I'm almost always disappointed by these things. Musicians just can't seem to talk about music, and the visionary ones even less so.

I think "The Dog Stars" deserves a mention.

No "Little Baby Nothing" by the Manics?

The first time your daughter is kidnapped, it's a tragedy. The second time just sort of makes you look careless.

Best Manics track: "Yes" off the Holy Bible. But that could change for me tomorrow - they seem to have quite a few best tracks.
