I don’t know the business side here, but the model I’ve seen be successful is the member-based, non-profit approach where the institution becomes something closer to a cinema-based community center. It seems like merging with other businesses/business models can help as well. There’s the Hollywood Theater in Portland

I find it distracting how much Nic Cage looks like Marilyn Manson.

Hey, what’s the Sex Pistols screaming “No future!” but a wish to never grow up?

And Iiiiiiiii-eeeeeee-yiiiiiiii want my money back.

Yeah, I’m not sure when everyone decided that was the world’s greatest song.  Back in the day it was just sappy and ridiculously overplayed.  Dolly’s version is at least more understated.

Tom Cruise is like a Top Gun movie in that he wows you with sheer skill, work ethic, and risk-taking, but you probably shouldn’t consider any deeper moral dimensions. Tom Cruise, in that sense, is also a lot like the real military.

Waits would quite literally die before he’d authorize it.

A man. An actor. A concept. A philosophy. A dream in our hearts. Possibly a method of preparing chicken.

Oh fuck everything, I’m excited as hell about this.

What’s also striking about the whole thing is how much is just sounds like a given Aerosmith song.

Frozen meets Kill Bill sounds amazing.

Impact vs. intent argument. You can’t separate prevalent social norms from personal culpability. There’s a self-righteousness to our current culture that has trouble recognizing that. But part of the trouble comes from the fact that, on a moral level, it doesn’t really matter. Harm is harm. I am less personally

Man, looks like I’ll have to completely ignore this one.  Which is a really radical change from what I would have done anyway.

Essential reading:

I love the history of Warner cartoons and fondly remember how much the studio used to value it, publishing multiple books and referencing it in contemporary animation projects like Tiny Toons and Animaniacs in the 90s. Skip to today when streaming archives are randomly decimated with zero care to history or legacy.

With some of this stuff it depends on the era of the character. Bob Clampett’s “hoohoo” Daffy wouldn’t make any particular list.  Chuck Jones’s relatively subdued narcissist is one of the great characters not just in animation, but in comedy.  I hate to dismiss the amazing contributions of Freleng, McKimson, Avery,

Wouldn’t say the poster is the one who needs to chill...

I was in Spain when Donald Trump was elected President. To say it cast a shadow over the trip is a gross understatement. Strange thing that on that trip I sort of fell in love with Everybody Wants Some!!. I watched part of it on the way there, part on the way back, and listened to the soundtrack while traveling around

Mike Colter.  Elijah Wood.  Seriously, I’m a committed hetero male, but those eyes.

Man does Benedict Cumberbatch sound like a Wes Anderson-created name.
