It’s not a subject Hollywood is interested in for accuracy. It’s just a narrative device. Although wasn’t there a bit of the transactional stuff in Joker? Like the social worker’s funding gets cut or something? I guess good on that movie in that one very specific way.

Right? As someone who’s actually had that job, fictional depictions of therapists/social workers so rarely bother to get it right. Robin Williams in Good Will Hunting is supposed to be the guy who “gets it,” but dude fucking physically attacks his client at their first session.  It’s called countertransference buddy,

Nice to see Joni Mitchell up, around and lookin’ regal.

Duran Duran yes. a-ha no. Carly Simon clearly yes. Madonna no, but that goes without saying.

Exactly.

Look, great as the movie was in terms of look and feel, LeCarre’s plot is just too intricate to stuff into two hours, even if those two hours work effectively as an immersion in the world of 70s British spycraft. But when it’s that condensed, it comes off as borderline incoherent. Give me a long, spread out miniseries

How can you feel seriously threatened by a guy who looks like David Bowie in his Ziggy Stardust era?

I was once at a Q&A with him where someone asked if had ever measured his chin.  He asked, “Where would I start?”  She replied, “Where the normal one ends.”

I don’t remember.  Not that kind of venue.

People become more themselves as they get older.  Who you’ll be depends on who you’ve been.

Yippee ki yay, you beautiful, underrated motherfucker.  Thanks for countless memories, and good luck with this bullshit.

Jesus Christ, just when thought it was impossible to love Willie Nelson more.

Yes and no. Yes because he has bad political views. No because he’s a human being. Last I read a profile of him he came off as this old guy, curmudgeonly, sort of all over the place politically, mostly focused on taking care of his wife with Alzheimer’s. He just sort of struck me as a pathological contrarian who likes

OK, I don’t put much weight on what Lydon says or thinks, though I do find him oddly likeable. Anyone seen Sid and Nancy recently? How’s it hold up?

No, but if it encourages a good, solid listen to Porgy and Bess, that’s a good thing. If THAT subsequently inspires exploration of Gil Evans 50s and 60s work, even better.

Haven’t listened yet, hope Gourley got in a question about Halloween 6 like he wanted.

I feel like I’ve seen the movie now. If that’s the case, good movie! Enjoyed all three minutes! Took my breath away! See what I did there?!  OK, onto real life.

Meanwhile RePUBlicans drink their sorrow away in, um...a pub.  OK that didn’t go anywhere.

I react two ways. On one hand, you get the mentality of upper crust Hollywood entitlement that says you can do stupid shit like this without consequences AND many, many problems with the you-have-besmirched-the-honor-of-this-fair-maiden mentality. On the other, as someone whose spouse has struggled with health issues
