I remember reading an article about this very idea a few years ago. While in theory it would reduce tire wear the added complexity, weight and cost made it very not worth it.

My 2000 Celica GT-S went 384,000 miles and ran like new for 20 years until a deer killed it. All I had to do was change the oil often and take good care of it. Was only on its second clutch too.  But mostly I think too many cars are unloved and neglected.
