Being extremely familiar with Netflix legal and their arrangements, I can tell you that your impression is wildly off.
I’ve thought that the fact that there’s a scientologist on one of their most popular shows (Laura Prepon on OITNB) probably plays a part.
Dude... you know that won’t be enough. Sure, they may worship a space lizard or whatever, but that’s not important. See, unlike Muslims, etc., Scientologists have just the right melanin deficiency, so those old conservatives aren’t unduly concerned.

My big surprise is even though Masterson has been accused for months (with some credible evidence) Netflix still promotes it in their ad campaigns and heavily suggest it to viewers.
It supposedly has a huge audience of older, more conservative leaning folks. It exists in its own weird self-sustaining viewership bubble, similar to the Adam Sandler stuff. That those people probably don’t give a shit likely makes it even easier for Netflix to ignore this.
