So I decided to binge this, and I hit the point of misery & self-loathing a couple seasons ago. I’ve been enjoying your recaps; they’ve been keeping me going, which on second thought maybe isn’t a good thing?

You're completely misunderstanding my point. It's not at all cool. It's sexist, annoying bullshit. That I'm sure she encounters regularly enough that she wouldn't be made uncomfortable by it. Annoyed, irritated, mildly pissed off, but not uncomfortable. Again, this does not in any way shape or form make what he said…
As a woman, I can tell you she was not made “uncomfortable” by this. Mildly annoyed, irritated, yes, maybe. But uncomfortable would imply that this was something somehow unusual that would take her aback... I guarantee she hears something similar at least weekly, if not daily.
Yes. Because when you can't figure out how else to end a show, send him north into a forest. Brilliant! (I actually didn't necessarily MIND Jon heading out into the great beyond... It's more the pacing and lack of development, for the whole season)
I mean, if they wanna have a spin off of him wearing women’s clothing and hanging out in bars, at least that might be INTERESTING. Unlike this rushed, half-assed, boring-ass episode.
Yeah, ending the show with Jon Snow walking in a forest... Jon Snow is now a lumberjack.
So basically, Jon Snow became a lumberjack.
Haha! Well, I'm a Greek American, so I'm not really taking full responsibility for him, but I figured y'all would probably be ok with letting him go 🤣
The way he skewered Djokovic... Now I just want to see them play him and win and do the heart shovel. Brutal! But so true.
It's really hard to say, which is what makes the conversation so fun! Like you can argue age, but that also means peak Fed got to beat up on fledgling Rafa and Novak. Someone less lazy than I needs to crunch those numbers for us.
Fed's winning the major count, but to me, it's hard to crown him the GOAT when he has losing records against Rafa and Novak. Novak actually has winning records against both, but there's still that asterisk that Rafa has dominated both on clay. But I agree--it's been a magical, remarkable era of tennis!
Sadly, I fear he might be next... Roger has warped a lot of our perception of longevity, but the truth is, a lot of tennis players start to break down in their late 20s, and are often done by their early 30s.
I also wonder how much had to do with her effect on the crowd. I can only imagine the pressure of having 20,000 people booing you... I felt it may have been an attempt to regain control...but not in a power trip way.
Thank you for this article, particularly for putting Osaka first. Of all the takes, this is the best I’ve seen, although I definitely feel Serena deserves about 90+% of the blame here, and genuinely hope there are no lasting repercussions for Carlos Ramos. If there's something wrong with the rules, as there appears…
Totally agree. But i will say, those stats don’t necessarily mean that there isn’t sexism... It’s possible that the women still get penalties for doing less than men, or that particular umpires are more strict on women’s players. Those are good conversations to have. But I agree with Martina...this isn’t an example of…
Yeah, I’m pretty sure most of these articles at this point are just bandwagoning on the uproar, and are written for (and possibly by) people that are fans of Serena, but don’t watch tennis unless it’s a slam final, if at all.
This pretty much sums up my thoughts, although I might argue that the coaching call wasn’t totally ticky-tack. I’ve been watching tennis for over 35 years... Coaching happens, and rarely gets called, however, Patrick’s coaching was far more blatant than other calls I’ve seen through the years.
Odd, for sure... I haven’t seen a match in person, but regularly watch on TV. Mohammed is one of my favorite chair umpires, and he’s also a talker—he regularly talks to the players during changeovers. So I don’t know the content of these conversations, but this isn’t necessarily out of character for him.
And fuck NFL fans, who will boycott over kneeling, but not over star players who rape/assault/abuse women.
I just want to see him play Kyrgios. Apparently, they’ve played twice, but not at a grand slam or masters.
