Because it's a "military fuck yeah" show.

I believe "the fucking Emmys" are called the "AVN Awards". And Alison Janney should get one, absolutely.

Lucky you, I need to find five!

1. Schweppenstette was apparently convinced that his basic premise (the West is aggressive and wants to attack) was correct and he viewed every piece of information under that premise. The information he disregarded was one he deemed to be false and distracting from the perceived "real" threat.

Or floppy disks! So the Sundance people can look at them and go "WTF….?!?".

The Gorbachev footage as the final bit in the disarmament montage was a nice foreshadowing of calmer days to come in the near future (he became General Secretary two years later, in 1985).

And there's an earlier reveal in the episode, but in defense of the reviewer that one is also the subtitle error of the week:

The A.V. Club
You’ll appreciate what a clever idea it was

So… how long until they finally run out of pre-time and are forced to go ahead with the actual Treasure Island-plot?

That's why they had to make due with a blurred picture of Success Kid.

I think Silk's first series was quite good, the second was a bit weird, and the third was seemingly held together by sheer will of the actors alone. In hindsight probably a good choice by Natalie Dormer to leave early.

Agree on the interrogation part, that wasn't drawn out at all, not even close. Interrogations like this for similarly small offenses could easily take days or even weeks.

The French author François Mauriac (a Nobel laureate) once famously said he loves Germany so much he's glad there's two of them. Here you get to see both!

Regarding the daddy theory, there was another breadcrumb this week, with Alexander saying to Martin "Having a big-shot dad is hell. Be glad you don't have one".

I noted in an earlier episode how General Edel used the formal "Sie" when addressing his son while in uniform, a subtle sign of correctness. This time at the gate, he shouted the informal "Du" at him, a breach of decorum and an obvious sign that he has lost all patience.

Speaking of subtitles, my favorite bit this week was when they translated the protesters' (historically accurate) chant "Petting statt Pershing" and turned it into "Peace not Pershing".

And Kennedy would blame FDR and his flashy fireside chats.

Not entirely, here are two women holding hands right behind the man with the uniform dress from "Encounter at Farpoint":

I also couldn't find any NATO or Cold War related thing called "Brandy Station", but I think the cavalry battle kind of works: It was a surprise attack that ended up as a big mess with no winner, which sounds a lot like what Walter's plan would turn out to be.

Speaking of Picard and US politics, here's an NYT interview with Ted Cruz where he answers the old "Kirk or Picard?" question:
