As an attorney formerly employed at a Japanese video game publisher, I can tell you that “Anti social Forces” is standard and boilerplate in pretty much all Japanese contracts (even those outside the video game industry)

How this made news on Kotaku is more interesting to me than the actual news itself.

I believe this is pretty standard contract stuff in Japan. My apartment lease forbid me from associating with “anti social groups”

Holy hell.  The guy has been in office a month.  “Immediately” is a relative term especially when it comes to politics.  Things only move so fast.

yeah, sure hes been in all of a little over a month, jesus H christ you people are fuckin stupid. The legislation has been written and is working its way through the process. stop acting so stupid.

I feel so jaded, because the game LOOKS amazing and basically brings to life my memories of childhood, but damn the game was mid as hell for me. Like the definition of 7/10.

I haven’t read the article, but I just thought - freezing eggs is a step, but not a huge commitment from a man. He has to agree to go further into those plans and inseminate an egg and be half responsible for the offspring. If he did not also pay for the egg freezing, then she is probably delusional. Even if he did,

I mean, “their” love? She clearly loves him, but it is not mutual.

The “psycho killer groupie” stereotype didn’t come from nowhere.

she says, “That’s sweet,” quietly, not convincingly

There was a weird part there where Smythe in that future talk where they were planning prenuptials and children’s names, yet later stated that while the letter indicated that she was his fiancee, they were actually ‘life partners’. Now I know that civil partnerships can still have pre-nuptial agreements, but something

It’s possible she is having a complete break with reality, and it is more possible that she has exaggerated in her own mind certain aspects of the relationship. But the simplest explanation, to me, is that a manipulative asshole who is in jail for fraud saw someone he could manipulate to his own ends, i.e. receiving

Also okay to understand that not all “art” is “Art”. That not every piece of media entertainment has to be viewed and criticized under the same microscope.

There’s reasons to feel bad everyday. If we condemn this game for having an unhappy ending we might as well do the same to every story that ended on a downer.

Exactly. The story made you mad? Or upset? Sounds like it worked.

Absolutely agree. I’ve seen some people suggest the story would have worked better with a different structure, but I completely disagree. You HAVE to go with Ellie on her rampage first because she doesn’t have the benefit of context or hindsight. The game wants you to hate along with Ellie, delight in her kills, be

She was a medic which they highly needed and as far as they could tell they weren’t in any danger on the way there, it was a surprise ambush. I can just tell you didn’t actually play the game and are just parroting critiques that have been copied and pasted a million times already.

How is a pregnant woman going on a mission considered a "plot hole?"

I think it was really gutsy of them to allow Ellie to be come a villain in this one, knowing it would evoke a lot of negative emotions from gamers who love the character. I’m glad they did it anyway, because it was a realistic direction for them to take her and it made sense for her character, despite how hard it was

Also the idea that nobody grew... I mean did they even play this game?? EVERYONE is changed in meaningful ways by the end.

A large portion of those who “hated it” never played it. They read the story leaks, let their homophobic and/or transphobic anger come out, and have littered any online coverage of the game every day since. Some go the extra step and send anti-Semitic slurs at Neil Druckmann. They’ll hide behind Joel’s fate, but not
