I like...
They’ve got a bunch of f-16s being retired but are short of pilots. In fact we have so many we use them as unmanned target drones.
It’s pretty cool to go supersonic as it gets quite quiet. Going faster than sound especially above the transonic regime at Mach 1.3+ is eerie and somewhat unsettling at first.
That price is a deal... I’d do it in a second.
That must have been intense, I wonder if they tried to hide the damage from the Soviets, no doubt, but what about US media and witnesses like your father. Horribly bad luck to have a tornado which typically are at most a mile wide and tens of miles long lined up just right/wrong to hit the B-36s

Some of the planes were likely “down” as in not currently flying due to maintence and thus had to stick around. I’d have to look around but Langely has far more than thirteen Raptors and thus many did indeed fly away, either for this or were already elsewhere.
Stepfather was in the Navy, Point Mugu NAS.
Sorry 56 F-35Bs but five are the Brits so 51 as of the end of June with 6 more coming this year.
