Vacuum tubes and mechanical gauges are highly resistant to EMP. The small yield of the weapons used against Japan also played a part. Russian jets, when inspected after the Cold War, were found to vacuum tube based avionics for this reason.pthe E-4b nightwatch uses some of these techniques to resist EMP.
