Hate crimes are up 17% from last year and this is the third year in a row that they've risen. So maybe they're just being reported WAY more frequently..... or maybe it's happening more AND it's easier to record.
I’m not sure; hate crime stats are definitely up, which might be an argument that phones aren’t a factor, but alternately, is this because people feel more comfortable making official reports of hate crimes when they have documented record of the incident via their cell phones?
