These guys came to my campus too...aside from the hospitalizations, the themed video they released from the party, "Nice Guys vs. Assholes" really did great things for encouraging the frat guys on campus to treat women suuuuuper well.
Google is your friend... Male Gaze
It's a gamble for sure...but some of them do have fantastic taste in music and beer.
**thanks, Andrew**
I'm fairly certain you'll have seen this already, but the part about sex and power in this 6-part piece is fantastic. (Really all 6 parts are, but as a woman who spent a good part of college serving in a terrible restaurant in the South, the part I linked to was particularly great to see in writing)
Or just taste reasons...in 90% of situations, I really just prefer almond/coconut milk! Especially since they come in sweet flavors too (like glorious vanilla) without being insanely sugary, like chocolate milk.
Also, I was never under some impression that my one cup of almond milk somehow contained a pound of…
I agree with you here, but I find myself seeing movies like Maleficent just because I like going to the movies and the alternatives (like Transformers) are crap with no decently written female characters. I'd bet there are a lot of women out there who do the same thing. When I look at how well something like…
Yeah, I'm all for smashing beauty standards, but I like that they've made these figures distinctly female. I feel like this is pretty realistic! Not "sexy scientist", and also not pretending there's a dichotomy where women are either pretty or do smart things.
As a mechanical engineer, a factory wedding sounds fucking fantastic to me. I just need a guy into chemistry or something for the sludge.
Wow. Good for them on the being loaded part, but not putting cheap stuff on the registry when your peers are 22 is pretty shitty.
I honestly think part of the problem is that the classic all-American beer loving guy doesn't actually like beer...most of the big names are so thin and watery (Budweiser is brewed with rice, for fuck's sake), even a simple belgian wheat might be too strong of a flavor. You can just forget about a decent IPA.
And this is precisely why I think his response of "It is entirely possible she read something completely different than I did" is a good one. He says that he never pressured her into doing anything, and wants to establish his innocence, but he's not going to call her an outright liar. I think this article's…
But would it really serve him better? That would put his response firmly in the territory of "she's a liar crying rape"...not really something that a self-described feminist who is familiar with the trappings of rape culture would want to do. His response signals that he still believes he did the right thing, while…
He did say they never had sex though. Her long form post changed "rape" to "sexual assault" after that.
My take on that (although it's conflicted...that definitely stuck out as a red flag) is that he might have wanted to phrase his response in a way that isn't just "she's a dirty liar". He seems to well versed in the ramifications of rape culture and considers himself a feminist, so it makes sense to me that he'd want…
I feel like that could go two different ways. It could be disturbing as you said, like he knows the exact thing that happened and in retrospect he feels like it was probably wrong. But on the other hand, it could be an attempt to phrase his response in a way that isn't just "she's a liar". I'm inclined to at least cons…
I used to work for a big theme park that recently opened up a new resort. One of the billboards used to advertise during construction featured a man with very awkward nipples playing in the pool with his family. Enough people commented about it that they painted over the nipples...the paint was slightly the wrong…
I'm aware that this couldn't be farther from the point of your story, but the idea that this guy didn't want a local beer in favor of something "better" like Budweiser or Miller Lite makes my eye twitch.
Exactly. As someone who used to be a supervisor at a university lakeside recreation center where pets are strictly prohibited, I've had to deal with more college kids bringing along "service animals" than I'd like to remember. We were told not to ever question them, but it got really old really fast when every last…
It really doesn't take such blatant things to mess up a kid's self image. Being around a mom who makes a point of calling attention to smallness (she's been pretty open about suffering from eating disorders), especially in the context of comparing her size to the child, can really skew how kids see themselves. I've…
