I’ve been driving a manual now for ~9 years. I can tell you there is no planning involved for normal everyday driving. Maybe for the first couple months your statement is correct, but it becomes just as easy as driving an automatic.

Probably a little late to the party, but some routers/access points allow for band steering. I have a few smart devices that absolutely will not work on 5ghz, I can tell my router that anything with “xx:xx:xx:xx” mac address needs to connect at 2.4ghz even if the network name is the same.
