Two things. The vast majority of semi-automatic weapons work on the exact same general parts. It’s not really as easy as ‘add a bit there’. What can be added can be removed.

They’re NOT bad cars.  Some are pretty nice.  But you can’t fight the trends in autos forever.  If it costs $2 million to run a plant, and you sell $1.5 million in cars, something will eventually break.

Point me to a $15,000 Silverado and I’ll be at the dealer in an hour.
