I liked Sucker Punch as an exploitation movie, although I haven’t watched it since it came out. Despite that, I agree with your sentiment.

There’s definitely an uncanny valley-esque thing with movies like WW84. Like, it’s more about the gap between either what it could be or what you expected it to be and what it actually is than an absolute measure of quality.

The most Zach Snydery game is probably Daikatana. If you ran Daikatana through a machine learning upscaler you’d get Justice League.

I think, once some time has passed and passions have cooled, we’ll accept that WW84 was a mediocre film marred by a weak script and some pretty indefensible decisions. It’s not awful like Batman v Superman was awful. It’s not awful like Thor: Dark World was awful. It seemed awful because we all wanted it to be great…

It makes a twisted kind of sense, because now it doesn’t matter whether the Snyder Cut is satisfying or disappointing, the “Release the Snyder Cut” weirdos can just immediately move on to a “Make the Snyder Sequel” hashtag.

Haven’t been this anxious to hate watch a movie since “Cats”. 

Hopefully the movie ends with Jared Leto’s joker directly addressing the camera and ordering all true Snyder devotees to stick their genitals in the microwave.

In fact, I’ve always argued that Joss’s work got markedly worse, both in its craftsmanship and its representation of women, when people stopped treating him as a skilled artisan who wrote well-constructed stories about the sort of women who interested him and started lauding him as this Genius Artiste…

For many, he was an example of what more equitable storytelling might look like, a model for how to create compelling women protagonists who were also very, very fun to watch.

Last night’s show really was funny. I think the writers’ room is finally getting over their Trump Hangover and reinventing/rediscovering their process after four years of having to find some way to parody POTUS 45's already ridiculous behavior every week. They’re starting to get creative again.
