I think this article has been incredibly unfair to a lot the negative coverage on DI under a misplaced understanding of nuance. The fact that DI is fun and cool and interesting  when you’re out fighting monsters is a common point of agreement. The frustration and outrage is targeted exclusively at its monetization,

If this is how people define their backlog, that does explain a lot of the weird anxiety all the Backlog Month articles just kind of radiate.

Why would you buy a game if you have gamepass? is the bottom of a slope that certain Streaming Cynics point out as a kind of problem future where games as a whole are devalued to the point where they only matter if they happen to be available on the big streaming platform of choice.

I think there is a categorical difference between reporting that a game is coming to a streaming service, (thus informing your audience of a newly announced opportunity to access or enjoy a game), and encouraging your audience to not buy a game because it’ll be available on a streaming service.

This article feels kind of gross. Like, I get the whole angle of helping people save money or w/e, but I feel like going “You should not buy this game (which we think is kinda fun!) because it’s on a streaming service.” is one of the actual boogeymen scenarios that streaming cynics point out.

I’m curious what your thoughts on the difference, if any, between Epic getting official licenses for character skins in fortnite and amatur modders doing the same in other games like Skyrim.

At least on the surface, the way these mods get added isn’t too far off from how Epic adds Skins to fortnite. It’s usually just

I think any comment WotC has about their commitment from Diversity should also be understood from the perspective of this former employee:

Knowing next to nothing about Digimon might actually be preferred.

How does a game that gives you everything but limits what you have at a time factor into this, like Diablo 3 or the original Destiny? Those games still required you to make choices, but don’t lock you into them.

Didn’t this dude make a biopic for the designer of the Japanese Zero? One of if not *THE* iconic fighter plane for imperial japan of WWII? Or am I thinking of someone else?

Happened in the 90s with Magic: The Gathering too. Cycle repeats itself.

It feels counter intuitive to cancel a project because you think a smaller project will come out faster, and that will somehow save you money. Hopefully this new game’s development goes smoothly and it meets expectations.

I got BFV very recently and boy do I feel weird about TTK. Most of my FPS experience is in Destiny so I feel like BFV can be kinda cheap? It’s very hard for me to get my bearings, and actually see where I getting shot from, plus the minimap is kinda useless in actually tracking enemies.

Halo Wars 2 kinda plays like Battle for Middle Earth, and is pretty OK, all things considered.

God, after watching the Yong Yea discussion, and all the click-baity YouTube videos that sprung up taking it, and also this article out of context, I can’t help but feel so demoralized.

Things that are only worth it if you get paid for it.

I’m actually a little confused here, why is the game engine a bright-line? Like, if I change how lighting or physics work that’s a change to the engine, right? Would that be outside of permit-able mod-work? Why is keeping the engine, but replacing every other asset OK?

Like, what if I build a mod that works like the

Those are salaries paid by their franchises, which the Magic Pro scene doesn’t have a system for.

The problem isn’t that the World Championship doesn’t have a big payout, and by skipping this tournament he walked away from a guaranteed $12,000, and a strong finish would have helped him financially in ways hard to explain without going into a mind-numbing amount of detail.

His problem is that the money is
