One word: Shaya.
+1
One other positive: My brother is transgender, and terribly, painfully shy. The internet allowed him to meet others, feel normal, and bond with other members of the LGBTQ community to navigate the long, hard process of first coming out as a lesbian, meeting his long-term partner who lived 1,000 miles away, then…
Another tough truth:
I only learned about Alex Jones as a result of this story!
Do they take anonymous donations? Lawsuits are expensive, but these fine people are doing good work and deserve to be supported.
J Crew Factory has red wool or cotton sweaters on sale for ~$25, discounted from $75-90.
Excellent points. Mrs. Canned Ham and I also teach at the Uni, and the lack of resilience is frequently brought up as one of the largest concerns of the faculty. The smallest setback is seemingly insurmountable.
It is fairly easy to make. See her recipe above or my “adjustments” below.
A few weeks ago, we made pimiento cheese for the first time. We used ultra-sharp cheddar and peppadew peppers (a bit sweet, a bit spicy, but super flavorful). It was a topping for burgers, and it was soooo good.
This is a great point. Bush was awful, and he seemed a little simple and spoiled, but Trump is an egomaniacal, xenophobic internet troll. Set up as a classic analogy, this isn’t encouraging.
What kind of patterns do you work on for fun? I have been making bags from Merchant and Mills Sewing Book.
I really like your cross-stitching! I am working (ever so slowly) on a Merchant and Mills Flight Bag, see pic from book below.
Roasted pork, poached pears, brussel sprout hash and chocolate ice cream with cocoa dusted hazelnuts. It is only the two of us though, and we aren’t huge on tradition.
The book Snow Falling on Cedars covers this, albeit on a smaller scale, on a tiny island outside of Seattle. The confiscation and reallocation of property was appalling.
A Pakistani-American colleague is terrified to return to visit her elderly grandparents because she is afraid that Trump won’t let her back in, or will put her on some kind of terrorism watch list. Sadly, I can’t offer her tons of reassurance based on the current situation.
Tiny Lithuania is estimated to have lost over a third of their population during the war. A national saying goes something like: It is a curse to be positioned between Germany and Russia.
And the treatment of First Nations children. I really enjoy visiting Canada, and find the national politics to be, in general, much more progressive than the US. That being said, a story about the treatment of the First Nations on Jez a few months back took my breath away.
Agreed. There tends to be a lot of jingoistic language in the teaching of American History in America.
