A little unrelated, but the best voicemail intro I ever had was this:
I'm usually not the type of person to jump and gloat about postings like these, proclaiming something like "I've been doing X for Y amount of years" and all that self-back-patting stuff, but this is what instance where I just couldn't help it, because my first really STRONG password was created in 1996, when I was…
This does seem interesting, but once I discovered SpaceSniffer, I never looked back. It's just an amazing little program that offers a perfect balance of graphical representation and functionality:
So I didn't actually use MacGyver skills in the sense that I turned ordinary office supplies into a flashlight or anything, but my proudest "DIY moment" was as follows:
@Harkonian: Trust us, it's worth trying out, at least. For end-users, uTorrent is considered one of the top "power user" bittorrent clients. You'll notice a difference, especially if you take advantage of some configuration options. You also might find better default performance if you're connecting behind a router.
@mdearlove: wouldn't happen to have an extra invite, would ya? ;)
Anyone have an NZB invite they'd be willing to share?
@mdearlove: Newzbin user?
@TunaFish: But non-technically (if that's a word), direct downloading is a little safer right now because the entertainment industry hasn't really shifted its attention from the bittorrent medium to direct downloads yet. Sure; they're all aware of it, and I'm sure they're keeping a close eye on all the indexing sites…
Quick tip: There's a great torrent search aggregator called TorrentFly (previously NowTorrents). I've used a lot of search aggregators in my time, but TorrentFly consistently provides the best results, sometimes even offering semi-private tracker listings. Whenever I'm indiscriminately looking for a torrent for the…
I really like using cursor-spawned docking menus, and I remember trying this app awhile back. (Actually, I've used a bunch, and I've currently "settled" on MouseExtender for the past few months, but I've been looking for something better).
@Prairie Moon: I'm sure LH will link to posts like that when absolutely necessary (when exclusive attribution is needed, for example), but otherwise, I think most original news-blog sites like LH prefer not to link to direct competitors' sites if they can help it. That said, I think LH has always been pretty cool…
"My quick fix is to drop them on Firefox's Bookmarks Toolbar, so that they're always out in the open whenever I open the browser."
Just to add my two cents; I've looked into this topic pretty thoroughly in the past, basically for the same reason (watching TV or listening to audio books on my laptop to fall asleep in bed), and I've tried a lot of auto-shutdown tools and apps.

Anyone know where I can find a battery-powered laptop cooling pad (with fans). Not looking for a USB-powered cooling pad, even with pass-through or multiple USB ports. I'm almost positive a battery-powered cooling pad doesn't even exist, but I had to check with the LH crew before giving up my search...
Heh; I've used that shoes trick for years, during my college years when I'd be visiting my friends every other night in their dorms or apartments, or at small get-togethers. It really is a fool-proof way to remember your stuff, especially when you're "sleeping over" at a boyfriend/girlfriend's place, because you…
"In an emergency, when you need the window defogged right now, the fastest way to do so is to rapidly lower the inside temperature so that the moisture stops condensing on the glass."
@GreenM: Just make sure you control the variables you CAN control, like the duration each cell phone is submerged, the duration of the "drying" process, the amount of rice used (new rice each time)...I'd also suggest trying the "refrigerator" method like I mention in another post up in this thread. I've always used an…
