I’m looking forward to autonomous cars. We get these folks into robots and the driver’s car can be a product again. Once enthusiasts realize that 700 hp and .002 second paddle shifts aren’t much use for grocery runs, the manual will rise again.

With the right set of skills and access to a secret stash of OEM protectors, one could conceivably bring this car up to modern spec.
That would give you a lot of unsprung mass though. Might not be worth the tradeoff.
Had a ‘72 in high school. Got it for $400. Ran great. Spent 3,000x that amount in fuel, and this was when fuel dropped to 99cents/gal.
