As their location is known, it’s not the only reason, you often have cops checking speed at random place so you try not to speed too much where you know they could be (or on roads you don’t know), not to mention that there are now rolling cars doing speed checks and they looks like normal cars.

I’m French so i might not be the most objective but Renault doesn’t have a bad reputation, they historically made practical cars that were not bland at a nice price point but lacking in perceived quality compared to VW for example.

Engine choice would most likely be different if sold in the US like most Nissan are for example.

Actually, Peugeot is more like access-premium in Europe but in any case they would probably sell plenty more 2008, 3008 and 5008 in the US than 108, 208 and 308.
