I’m a pilot and CFI, and once upon a time I owned an airplane, too. You had a very good intro flight, and I’m happy you loved it.
Even if the drivetrain is in good shape, the rest of the issues give me pause, and lots of it. The rust below the rear window is especially concerning, because that will be a serious pain to fix. It needs a respray. The interior pieces are going to be hard to source if you want it pristine, though I’m not worried…
That transmission is why I no longer but Ford products. I had one in a 1992 Explorer Sport. 65K miles, it disintegrated. I had the truck towed 70 miles to a Ford dealer for a rebuild. $1700. 4000 miles later, it disintegrated again - and Ford refused to honor the repair warranty. Another $1700 down the tubes.
Did you sing Heywood Banks’s Interstate 80 Iowa while you were riding it?
We cannot just agree to disagree about Marxism - and yet those pushing the things you advocate for are using them to push full-blown, out and out Marxism.
Mercedes...can we talk?
I will do it in a couple of weeks.
TFA says it’s 400 SMOH and 2400 TT, so it’s been done once.
With the Continental of the M20K in it, this would be a NP, easy. (Well, assuming it passes a PPI from an aircraft mechanic well versed in the foibles of the M20.) But that engine dooms parts for this one to perpetual unobtainium status. There are far fewer than 41 of them flying, as Porsche made a concerted effort to…
My first look at the picture had me thinking “Yeah, what’s a Mercury Grand Marquis doing at an international car place?”...until I read the text. I’m no fan of Ford, but a Grand Marquis would be a hell of a lot more reliable.
I don’t know where they got these numbers...since the Minnesota Department of Health, no shrinking violet when it comes to reporting cases of this virus, says Minnesota has 50 extra cases due to Sturgis. Even if that’s off by two orders of magnitude, it still doesn’t come close to the expected proportion of cases here…
Someone who doesn’t know these trucks well. At 200K, it’s probably in good shape mechanically and cosmetically. I’d want to pull the cover off the top of the engine and look carefully for soot around the injectors, the infamous OM642 Black Death, and have it gone over very, very thoroughly by a good mechanic who is…
My roommate bought a 1998 Corolla new. He’s still driving it, with about 185K on it by now. It hasn’t had anything major break, though the power steering rack does need rebuilding or replacing (as is common on these). He just puts fluid in it when it needs it and drives on. It’s rusty (it’s a 22-year-old Minnesota…
Even if it wasn’t your car, it’s still a Nice Price. $3800 isn’t a lot of money, there’s not a whole lot that can go wrong, and it’s n great shape (even if the rear hatch does have rust). I’d go for this one.
That’s my take. Forget about investment. This is a car that’ll be a lot of fun to own and drive for not stupid expensive money. NP all day long.
The PPI is a must. But the price is about double what it should be, especially for RWD.
I had a 210 wagon and loved it. This? The cosmetics add not one penny to the value. At least it’s still got an M102 in it, the best V6 Mercedes ever built and one of their best engines, period. I paid $4400 for my 2001 E320 4Matic waagon. This thing is worth about that much, definitely not just shy of 10 large. No…
You want a silver bullet for gun policy? Easy: Stop worshiping firearms, and purge people of their unjustified fear of the outside world that drives them to purchasing them as a security blanket.
It’s settled law that restrictions on ammunition are restrictions on guns, and an attempt to end-run the Second Amendment that way are just as invalid as attempts to ignore it directly.
