It’s the same thing that occurs when people buy houses with large kitchens or other spaces “for entertaining”.  Sure, they may only entertain others a few times a year that may require that amount of space, but they are willing to spend a fortune for the ability to do so when they want to.  Yes, they could rent a

Ahem, I’m thinking like an actuary right now. An actuary wants to know what the probability is of you (the general you) having an accident. While past accident rate is an indicator, and moving violations on your record are another, adding more behavioral data serves to make the insurance rate (for all, not just you)

This isn’t how insurance works, but it’s the epitome of “what about me” individualistic American philosophy

I’ll go out on a limb and defend Erik a little bit here.  I think he meant buying an individual stock is a gamble.  Surely he understands that investing in a fund indexed to an entire market is a good bet in the long run.

Is this annoying you yet?  It’s annoying me?

You’re right, progress never happens and we shouldn’t attempt anything new. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have a Wright Glider to catch. I’m going on a trip to the other side of this flat beach.

I’m interested in one Renault.

I dunno. Mortgage crisis cratered our economy. The combined effect of 9-11 and the Tech Bubble bursting cratered our economy. I was a wee one at the time, but I kinda recall the post-Cold War, pre-Gulf War era as not being especially lovely either. Black Monday. Seems like the economy implodes on a rhythm these past

A cheap, lightweight small compact pickup might be a good commuter vehicle (that’s not electric). Better still, make this new small PU optionally electric, and bazinga.

Hi, I’m Jimmy from Jimmy’s Manure Delivery.  All of our vehicles are Dodge Journeys, because they’re crap before we even load anything in them.

Add in the costs of securing the middle east then get back to us.

This looks like something an adult should drive, not some borderline Fast&Furious tuner job.

I’ll raise your anecdotal story with my own.  My neighbor has a plug in 3-series that he religiously plugs in when he gets home.  My friend has an A3 E-tron that is always charged as well.  When I discuss PHEVs with friends, the plug-in aspect is very much a selling point.

I mean, if you want an example of a non-corrupt union, uh, you’re posting on a page represented by one.

You’re looking at this entirely from a new car perspective, which has numerous flaws. It’s EXTREMELY possible to find cheap used cars that don’t require 8 year terms and will last you longer than they did in the 80s.

According to EV critics, putting a charger in a house costs approximately $3 billion, give or take...

It’s a confluence of a great many things. Among others:

I’m inclined to by the cheapest half of the car. While I could afford new, it’s just so much more cost effective to get new-to-me with around 100k miles on them. Then I drive them for 1ook+ more. And often, because I have all the documentation, I’m able to sell them off for really good money.

Except those are very rare instances. 99.9% of the time used is the way to go.

This site’s readership can never have any real effect on the overall buying trends in the market. Even if everyone here bought new cars, it wouldn’t really matter
