“You can send money to people not using Zelle through their phone number or email address.”

Nicely explained. As an alternative, most PC BIOSes let you specify the PC's behavior after power is restored: stay off, turn on, or previous state.

I see this merge going the other way, with Google folding Chrome OS' functions into the chrome browser on Android. As I understand, Chrome OS has a leaner, faster Linux codebase and some amazing security features but otherwise, offers maybe 5% of what Android does. Bringing the full Chrome browser into Android would

foam ear plugs are pretty comfortable and effective. Add some loud, bass-heavy white noise (large fan, white noise/brown noise audio) and you should muffle out plenty of it.

Regarding going to bed earlier, it doesn't have to be so miserable if you can change slowly ... and have self discipline. I've found it easy to shift my sleep schedule (circadian rhythm) using a blue "mood light" and an herbal sleep aid.

you can use chromium if that's an issue.

part 4 links back to this overview page. Thanks for putting this together!

Perhaps I'm the only reader on this side of the fence but I like the new design. The ability to mousewheel-scroll through the sidebar is great and having two different layouts for the main column is kind; so few websites provide alternative layouts and as it's often said, "to each his own." The new, smaller header is

They've had a GUI for at least a couple of years but it yields iffy results. I used to download another GUI app, 'samba config something' to get it working right. Then again, SMB (Windows sharing) has always been unreliable without using fixed IPs, in my experience.

I found what I think is an even easier way (read: automatic) using PixelPipe.

@tylerf: not sure what you mean exactly but if the color or light looks uneven, that's a viewing-angle issue. You'll simply need a different monitor.

@DaveyNC: exactly what I was thinking. Surround the desk with a sand-collecting mat and this could be damn near practical.

@mohkahn: I've only had one major issue with compiz: full-screen/large-screen video will crash if you're using nvidia's driver. If you're having other issues, perhaps compiz won't work for you.

@mrchnd: I use Hugin panorama stitcher on the PC and would assume that it does a better job than any phone app could do (for now).

@casen: If you're happy using your external drives, then Gotlactose's examples are about the only additional selling points for you. You might consider what would happen if your backup drives were stolen, burned, or slowly failing and corrupting your backed up files.

With gnome-do, I rarely open the gnome menu, so I've replaced it with a tiny icon in the corner of gnome panel. And it already had a hotkey of ALT+Space, which is easy enough to hit. Still, if I didn't use sooo many winkey shortcuts, this would be handy.

@napolean: cairo (a dock) can pin apps like you're wanting but I noticed it didn't handle them all perfectly. I didn't spend much time troubleshooting it though.

@mohkahn, @Marand: yes, compiz & metacity can easily move windows between workspaces. Compiz via "compizconfig settings manager" and metacity via "keyboard shortcuts". And I think compiz can also bounce a window left and right ... but dragging & dropping works quite well, too.
