The Culture novels are probably my favorite collection of reads and Excession isn't my favorite among them. Use of Weapons was very good as was Player of Games. But who am I kidding, I loved them all.

Boneshaker did drag. I liked the idea of the story, but the moments that should have been climaxes really didn't rise to the occasion.

That book dragged on without end. The plot was interesting, but Dostoevsky decided to beat the storyline with a dead horse repeatedly.
