I can’t get too specific, but we machine FWD and RWD/4WD blocks. The crankshaft bore and cylinder bore are the same, but the sides (where accessories and engine mounts are installed) are very different.

In my experience, even the castings are different. You need different mounting bosses not just for the engine itself, but also accessories, as they also get packaged differently.
