Look, I'm no PhD, nor a retired billionaire, but I did watch the video. It looks like the rings normally just float there, and the action of the hurricanes (higher waves) "activates" them by circulating the water down the funnel. They're not talking about permanently changing the water temperature, they're saying

@thinkthis: I apologize if you're joking and I'm being dense, but in fact he has NOT spoken to Tony Heyward. It came up this week both in his Matt Lauer "whose ass I should kick" interview, and then again in Wednesday's press briefing by Robert Gibbs. Here's the Washington Post on it:

So what HAS Obama been doing in his "singular focus" since "day one"? The video above shows pretty clearly . . .

For those (i.e. sublimnl) saying that those of us who fault the US govt have not said, "they should have done X, Y, and Z", here are my x, y and z's:

@Lupus_Yonderboy: LOL! I hate adding single-purpose always-loaded program on my computer. Might be easier to take up smoking! :-)

@archer75: It's weird that you would invest so much time and thought into describing your preferred process, and yet add 4 words to the start ("That's a lame guide.") which will instantly turn off 1/2 the potential readers.

I saw this show up last night and was muchly pleased. GMail was already the easiest way to get my in-laws onto a video chat with the kids, but even at that I was usually VNC'ing into their computer and clicking the buttons. With this, I may actually be able to walk them through it over the phone. Nicely integrated,

Subway melt is especially for our Hawaiian friends, since it ends today at 11am. RUN!!!

@Ben Mason: Gotcha. In the end, it definitely would be worth the cost of the 9 extra words to say, "This applies only to blade grinders, not burr grinders" :-) It didn't cross my mind to apply it to burr grinders, but now it strikes me that it just depends on how one "categorizes" things.

@Matthew Andrews: What makes it work with a blade crinder (presumably) is that the rice will probably not be pulverized by it (rice being tougher than coffee beans) and even if it's slightly broken up, everything stays up in the same space in the machine.

@PaladinMJ: Alright, given the question 2-up from here (does this work with a burr grinder) I stand corrected. Apparently not obvious ;-)

@PaladinMJ: Good point, but should be clear to most coffee lovers by the instruction "to reach the top of the blades". Burr grinders don't have blades.

I made a pen holder back when the original was posted, and it's still one of the most frequently noticed items in my office. Love it.

@TheFu: First I'd need some HUGE pens.

Or you could, you know, plug the inverter in the way it was designed to be used . . .

Actually, building on Fierock's point below about holding your camera at the end of a stick, one area this *might* be handy is at the end of a stick. A long stick. I could see this same technique, with a broom handle in place of the short dowel, being a lightweight way to get unusual camera shots, or pics over a

I'm a bit skeptical of the value of this, but if you *did* decide to do it you can eliminate about 3/4 of the work by simply using a threaded stud instead of all that hassle:

@lewisboy: Doesn't work that way. The hidden partition shows up to the decoy OS as blank space. If you're mounting the decoy OS in private (i.e. just to keep it looking lived in) you can instruct TC to protect the hidden volume, but if someone is forcing you to mount the decoy OS, and they, for example, began writing

@JustDoThis: And that appears to be from 1 to 4 characters, right? So a *real* password would presumably put you in the millenial category. :-)

@PixelProphet: I know I could make an encrypted file, but I was more interested in the partition idea. An encrypted file is easily noticed, whereas an encrypted partition is indistinguishable for an unused/wiped partition. I'm just not sure what effect partitioning an SD card has on a camera, never having tried it.
