They are technically in different segments, but have basically the same target customers.

Well I’d say that the fact that this is in the same niche as the Trackhawk and costs about as much as a Trackhawk but has 300 less horsepower might have something to do with that.

Cost. Heavy oil is cheap because it’s an unavoidable byproduct of refined petroleum products that would be a waste product otherwise seeing as not much else can even use it. It isn’t as energy dense as other fuels but marine heavy-oil engines are very thermally efficient so the small loss in energy density isn’t as

Nope. I owned one of these(four door anyway) and loved it. Even drove it cross country twice. It was in much better shape, and I bought it and sold it 5 and 3 years ago respectively for $3500 both times. The 2nd gen is the least-loved 4Runner gen, lost a lot of the charm of the first and the third is a superior vehicle

Well, to give them the benefit of the doubt maybe they’re killing off the Street models in preparation of something better. I doubt it, but maybe.

I have a 2018 Tacoma with 80,000 miles and it’s been completely reliable.

My E36 smelled like the Crayola factory

Thanks!

I never planned on buying a new car, but I bought my 2018 brand new because it was the cheapest sick shift 4x4 with the factory rear locker with less than 70,000 miles I could find locally.

See, that’s what I said when I initially bought my 4Runner. Actually almost bought an Outback instead, really just wanted a decent adventure vehicle. But as I’ve gotten more and more comfortable off road it gets more and more fun to challenge myself a bit, you could end up there too! I don’t live in the sticks but in

True mechanical AWD but fully disconnected from the rear most of the time.

I don’t think the manual’s going away entirely anytime soon, a CVT WRX isn’t going to fly and it’s not like they’re going to develop a dual clutch for it. Whether or not it stays in any non-performance models is the question. I mean, two out of four Crosstrek owners I know have three pedals, and they’re people I know

Nice, Pro-4Xs are plenty capable! My skills have finally caught up with my Taco so I think I’m finally going to build it a little.

Have you tried pulling the traction control fuse? I don’t know exactly where the drivetrain differences begin and end but a friend with a manual Crosstrek was running into similar problems to what it sounds like you are, in tricky situations he simply couldn’t let the clutch all the way out without the car bogging and

Yet for all those 16 years of progress and fancy differentials this manages an entire 3 mpg improvement over a body-on-frame truck with 2 less gears.

That’s really more of a lack of low range issue than a power or altitude one. I wheeled my old 2nd gen 4Runner that was probably making about 130 hp on a good day at sea level in Colorado and it did fine. If I don’t put my manual 3rd gen Tacoma into low range when the going gets tricky it’s the same clutch-scented stor

I wouldn’t put money on the full-size Bronco being priced into the stratosphere. It ain’t that special, and it ain’t limited edition. It’ll be like the Supra, hotly anticipated so a few people pay ridiculous premiums but at the end of the day it’s just a car so if you’re paying over sticker we’re talking like a few

I guess, besides offering a regular auto instead of a CVT(and pleaseeee keeping the manual) I’m not really sure what else I’d like to see them do. Their AWD system is still among the best whether or not it looks the most impressive on paper. They could use a bit more power but I’m not impressed by the shift towards

That makes sense, I hadn’t thought of the ‘American Makes Only Crowd’. This is definitely more attractive than the Jeeps it’s comparable to as is, it’d blow them out of the water if they’d put just a bit more effort into the interior.

Exactly, plus the Crosstrek and Forester are actually excellent products regardless of how many of the buyers are actually discerning and how many are buying them just cuz everyone else seems to have one and their Corolla got stuck in the snow once.
