due to the “treasure hunt” atmosphere, some of the best deals are really only going to be found by walking around and looking, and they get new stuff daily. if i lived in a big city with a costco and no car, id probably buy a folding wagon. not sure that would work on public transport, though...

This is only true if the plane pulls directly to baggage claim. The last bag on the plane will be the first one on the luggage truck and the LAST one on the belt. The first bag on the plane will be the last one on the truck and the first one on the belt. Think about it...

Jesus Fucking Christ, just wait in line like an adult. Lying to people isn’t a “lifehack.” It’s just being sleazy.

I pack as many mini liquor bottles in my carry-on as possible. So by the time I get to the baggage claim, I really just don’t care.

Not to nitpick, but as someone who loaded bags in a former life, if your bag is last in, it’s also first out which means it’s at the bottom of the baggage cart at your arrival airport. Which means it’s potentially last on the carousel. If there are a ton of bags, which there usually are, no rhyme or reason to which

I can tell you why the theory does not work, if your bag is the first off the plane, it will not be even close to one of the first at baggage claim, it will go on the bottom of the pile on the transport. Depending on how full the plane is, there could be 2 or more transports, it’s a pure crap shoot!

Just go to the ticket counter or curbside check, put on your best smile and ask them if they will expedite your bag. I was only asked why once. I just told them a had a meeting at the airport immediately after arrival and my samples are in the bag. Done! it doesn’t cost them anything. So if you are polite, why not? As

I’ve been seeing versions of this lousy advice for a few weeks now. I fly literally every week and I can tell you, none of this works everywhere. Every airport is different and every airline has different procedures. If you can do carry-on it will be quicker. If you can’t, plan an extra 20-30 minutes to pick up your

if your bagcomes off the plane first doesn’t that mean that it’s first on the trolley and then last off into the belt?

American Airlines worker here. The problem with the gate check tip is that you are not allowed to pass through security with liquids over 3.4 oz so if you are carrying liquor or any other high volume liquid, you must check your bag before security. Also, in the case of American Airlines, they do not give fragile

Lying about your bag having fragile shit in it so it comes out a little faster seems unethical to me. Certainly seems like a slap in the face to those who travel a ton and have earned status or even those who pay for first class and the benefits to watch dishonest people take advantage of a system.

But it’s not like the bag goes straight from the plane to the carousel. The process goes plane -> luggage truck -> carousel. So by your logic, wouldn’t you want to be the FIRST piece of luggage on the plane, so that you’re the last on the luggage truck, then first on the carousel?

Your blog headline is misleading I was assuming check-in bags and your are describing carry-on bags which is no brainier .

This doesn’t make any sense. The logic here is flawed, except for labeling luggage as fragile.

And just how are you getting this bag with a bottle of liquor to the gate? You can’t get it through security.

This is some good selfish American advice.

The problem is that these tricks only work if just a few people try to game the system. What if lots of people did it? Special handling for fragile baggage goes away (which may or may not matter in reality) because there are too many fake-fragile bags; airlines raise the prices for gate-checked bags because they’re no

The baggage loading union is now thinking of buying lifehacker.com so they can delete any articles that encourage everyone to get a ‘fragile’ sticker.

So..., one of Travel and Leisure’s recommendations is to simply lie about what’s in your bag? What have we become? Another option, I suppose, would be to show up at the last minute! Missed flight, anyone?

I recently flew with golf clubs for the first time and was amazed that, at both airports I flew through, my clubs were out before the rest of the bags. And both times it was just one guy bringing my clubs in through a side door.
