It also breaks Windows Media Player — all you see are the controls surrounding the video — you don't see any of the video. And it gets confused about the taskbar and Internet Explorer, thinking that they're the same thing so making both visible but sometimes making neither visible, even if you alt-tab to Internet

This AHK script is disastrous. It introduces all kinds of problems on XP when alt-tabbing from program to program or when clicking on taskbar entries. It rarely highlights the correct window.

Since when has the cost of producing something dictated the cost of consuming it?

Until the moderators of the various online 'help me to remove malware' forums (such as spywareinfo and bleepingcomputer) start to recommend installing a particular tool then I generally stay away from it. Their top tools are generally mbam, hjt, ccleaner, regsupreme, superantispyware, spybot-s&d, ad-aware and a few

@jarmod: All of this is one reason that you need to consider an emergency boot cd-rom such as UBCD4WIN or BartPE.

@discounteggroll: Presumably you want the final, as in post-setup, executables on that USB key and not the [setup.exe] files themselves? Most software cannot, to my knowledge, be installed in safe mode because they use the Microsoft Installer and it will not work in safe mode. Plus some viruses are smart enough to

@JuryDuty: You're using OpenDNS' content filtering, right? Was it straightforward to configure things (two OpenDNS accounts and your SOHO router's routing, presumably) so that the children's access was filtered while yours was *not*?

Everyone responsible for bringing the MX-5/Miata into the world should be given a gold medal for their contribution to motoring.

@timtoolman: You mean the side blade, behind the door? You can have it in a matching body color.

Looks good but do lots of programmers out there really use this or notepad++ for mainline programming? I'm a little surprised, to be honest. Not one programmer I know uses either — they all use paid editing tools (like SlickEdit, UltraEdit) or Eclipse or the relevant IDE (Visual Studio et al).

Wow, nightmare. There's almost no chance that the average user is going to have any confidence that this program will do what he/she wants it to.

@cybrown: How will you buy things if credit/debit cards do not work, no-one will accept checks, and ATMs do not dispense cash? I know that sounds lunatic fringe but it's certainly conceivable, to me at least. Read about what transpired in Argentina — bank accounts frozen for 12 months, allowing for only minor sums

I'm not sure why this is being described as a must-have.

Love the general notion of double clutch but I'm not a big fan of Porsche's implementation. Without PASM+sport chrono the set of automatic modes (on the 911, at least) is way too limited and mpg-driven, plus the shift buttons are not as much fund as rear-mounted paddles.

@The Name's Ash78, Housewares: Buy a 1999/2000 model Boxster. Can be had with very low mileage for under $20k. Loads of fun and very practical (compared to any other roadster).

Wow, these image viewing/editing applications must either be easy to write (which I doubt) or there are a lot of people with a lot of time on their hands.

@vantesaur: So Hamilton has some kind of indestructible car that means he doesn't have to pit and lose time after ramming someone off the track?

It's odd that Porsche has so little clue about this usability mess. Ditto with BMW and its iDrive system. Any Acura model destroys both for sensible, attractive design but most importantly for ease of use, especially when driving. It's embarrassing.

The standalone Picasa3 Photo Viewer that comes with this, though it's not enabled as the default Windows picture viewer, is much better than I was expecting.

@powaking: I don't think they offer you the additional TiVo services like Netflix and Rhapsody. I thought that those Comcast, and other, DVR boxes with TiVo software are just using it as a (much) better front-end to the service they already provide. Plus, if I believe an article that I read this morning, this
