Exactly; the 944's engine is 1/2 of the 928's V8. And I've never heard that the transaxle was anything to do with Audi and I don't think it would be possible because of the transverse mounting.... However, from what I've read the Audi rings are stamped in the floorpan of the 924, 944, and 968.

owner of a 26 year old 944 Turbo with 135,000 miles here... What usually happens is people from years 10 onward don't do routine maintenance and let the cars rot, and they become basket cases by neglect.
