    We are not “programmed to die” the body dies due to damage and the inability to repair that damage. If the repair systems remained in place and worked fully we would not die. The idea we are programmed is old and it isn’t consistent with modern biology and what we know now. See Hallmarks of Aging for details.

    No the objective of this and related research is to keep you healthier for longer not just extending lifespan. The new technologies being developed would aim to restore lost function to organs and tissue so you would be healtheir and independent as you aged.
