Nobody here is saying the teenager’s motives are relevant to Weiner’s guilt. He’s guilty as sin. Weiner’s lawyers want the jury or judge to think the girl’s motives somehow excuse Weiner, but hopefully that tired old excuse won’t work.

I think there’s a lot of evidence all that is true and that the girl or her family were politically motivated. It’s irrelevant as hell, though. Weiner committed a crime all by himself.

Yeah, her motivations don’t affect his guilt, but for sure she planned this. I’m sure she had no idea what kind of a snowball might result and how big its impact would be, but she’s always been straightforward about it being for a book.

If it were a teen girl who was sexting (and not her father) I would shed tears for her whether or not she sought the sexting out — and for whatever reason she did it.
