For about $9 I can get a single serving of these meals, or a close equivalent, in the “ready to cook” section of the deli in a metal actually recyclable tray (alas, the lid is still plastic). And I won’t have to clean any dishes.

I was one of the last people to interview for the Copland team. What sticks out from the interview was one engineer talking about how they were just going to redo a subset of the UI, then realized they needed to include more of it, then realized they needed to include even more, and so on. Basically it took them too

Charge multiple devices at once and have the devices communicate so their displays were in sync. Because what you really want out of a charger is it to waste power looking pretty.

There might be some nice places just off-stage, there to provide a counterpoint to the place where interesting things happen. I wouldn’t mind Bujold’s Beta Colony, for instance. Free access to the Internet is written into their constitution.

My brother did that one summer in Texas. Constantly going between 100+ outside and extra-cold AC inside is not good for you.

2001, which is the last time I visited my mom in Texas (she comes out here to CA, I have better weather). She had Frosted Flakes, which I’d never eaten as a kid because flakes are boring adult things. Shows what I knew; it was unbearably sugary.

Chopped up fine then formed into a ring shape. The uniformity simplifies processing which fast food places love, but it’s not really an onion ring.

SNL Skit?

The “Metro” tile window on Win8 didn’t close when you weren’t using it, it just went transparent. I don’t know what it did for your performance but it was a PITA for your virtual machines.

There’s a new “Magsafe” which lacks the “oops, I tripped over the cable, and now the port is broken” feature of OG Magsafe.

My dad took us kids back in the 80s - we’d have been between 12 and 16, two boys and a girl (me). Chicken wings weren’t really a thing outside of Buffalo yet. I assume the food was decent as I’d probably remember if it was bad.

Neil Gaiman slipped “felching” past DC Comics’ censors in Sandman when he couldn’t use “fucking” because they didn’t know what it meant.

“Maximizing the ad views” : “making a slideshow”

Amazon only knew what I bought, Facebook had specific personal information like age, school, job. It was pretty weird back in the day, though, when I played around with my data: 40F/single got ‘looking for an entry-level job?’ and 40M/single got ‘looking for a hot date?’ I guess the algorithm assumed 40/single meant

Leia was bait and had to be convincingly scared so Obi-Wan would feel her through the Force.

Why did Vader torture Han? Leia is just bait; all that was misdirection to scare her.

Also, choose your target. Taking too much of the fruit provided by the company? Rude, but you’ll get away with it. Taking the fruit that was one of the custodial workers’ lunch? The social slack page lights up and you’re damn lucky we don’t know who you were.

Well, it’s Gizmodo - it’s hard to tell.

Right, but the article says “dinosaurs as genetic descendants of birds”. Even figuratively, that’s backwards.

By then it’ll all be USBC and you’ll have a pile of useless lightning cables.
