Most of Toy Story 3 isn't noticeably darker (a good chunk of it does take place at a brightly-colored children's day care, after all) but it does start to get darker towards the end, before glowing bright red at the incinerator sequence. Pretty interesting stuff.

Good lord, the Harry Potter movies got dark as the series progressed.

One that stands out to me is Speed Racer. It's got such a bright color palette, which helps illustrate just how much that movie really was a live action cartoon.

I knew there was a reason why Captain America was the Avenger to whom I related the most.

I can't really make myself care about this casting choice. Between Bay, Liebesmann, and the script rumors, Fox is easily the least horrible thing I've heard about this upcoming movie.

As soon as I read the thread title, my first thought was "skunks!" Thanks for not letting me down, Esther.

I'm okay with that.

If there's any justice in the world at all, there will be.

At least the act of people trying to explain magic as science doesn't have horrific real-life baggage attached to it.

You couldn't really fault the academy either way with that one. The 2001 ape-men look more realistic, but the way the Planet of the Apes actors were able to emote through all that make-up was astounding. Both hold up incredibly well today.

Those are also consistently the most banned books in school libraries. Adults love to underestimate what kids are capable of handling.

An early (the earliest?) incarnation of "if you die in the game, you die in real life."

That thing is creepy as hell. Kill it with fire, I say.

This episode didn't have a lot of action, but it did seem like it was setting things in motion for big stuff to happen in the near future. Contrast that with season two episodes, which mostly featured people bitching at each other, but all that set up was more bitching at each other.

Eh, I'm okay with that. Affection from cats may be completely selfish, but it's still affection, and they're so damn cute and cuddly. Besides, it's not like I'm going to need my face when I'm dead anyway.

I'm reminded of this every time my cat goes into stalker mode. His movements are straight out of the Discovery Channel.

Robin is Dash, not Buddy.

Elephants are so cool. Why can't humans be that cool?

Beautiful. I'd love to see a live-action film with these creature designs.
