Sorry, poor word usage. I run Linux and Windows in Parallels. I get the "native" Linux apps from Fink. Some Linux apps compile totally fine on OS X with little to no modification, though I've rarely had to do that.

I forgot OS X doesn't allow writing to NTFS out of the box! It was built in back in Snow Leopard, but it wasn't enabled by default, but I simply installed "NTFS for Mac" forever ago and completely forgot.

You're terribly mistaken. For starters, OS X is a Unix-based OS just.like.Linux. You can easily run Linux applications on OS X; they're sisters from the same mother.

Methinks you aren't aware of why people choose OS X over other operating systems. The same reasons why someone would choose to use OS X are the same reasons they would choose NOT to use Linux. I say this objectively; having a triple boot setup myself.
