Wow, rough week for Warner. First Twiggy got hit with sexual assault allegations last week, now this.

As I pointed out in my own comment, this isn’t really an Italy thing, it’s a Right Wing thing. The only reason our own Right Wing media has been uncharacteristically light on the victim blaming this time around is that if they blame the victims they can’t blame the Democrats (because Weinstein is a prominent Democrat).

Look, this isn’t an Italy thing, it’s a Right Wing thing. The only reason our own Right Wing media has been unusually soft on the victim blaming is that Weinstein is a prominent Democrat. So our Right Wing had to decide whether to blame victims or blame Democrats. This time around, they decided to blame Democrats

That fact that’s she’s a woman doesn’t mean she can’t blame victims, which she was absolutely doing. Granted, she’s blaming victims by saying they’re not doing enough after the fact, but it’s still victim blaming.

I wish I could say you’re right. But the unfortunate reality is that Dotarded Orange has already killed the press. The press could drop the biggest bomb in the world tomorrow with every proof available, and a sizable and (more importantly) heavily armed portion of the population will claim it’s “Fake News” and

Except that, guess what? No amount of martyrs will actually make a difference. Hell, even this whole thing is going to end badly for women. The men in power are going to keep their power, including their power to abuse, and they’re going to do whatever it takes to do so. Weinstein may go down for this, and one or two

Hell, it’s not even just the women who stood to lose from coming forward. As QT’s mea culpa today demonstrates, even men knew what was going on and remained silent because they knew their careers were on the line. And quite clearly that threat goes double for women, so of course most of them weren’t going to say shit

Yeah, the AV Club was easily the best commentariat community I’ve ever encountered. As for this article, I will admit it’s not O’Neal’s best work. But considering some of the gold he’s produced over the years (look into the final days of Starwipe for some fantastic reading), I’m inclined not to bitch too much about it.

...You’re talking to Sean O’Neal, quite possibly the greatest snark-master ever to write for the AV Club, and one of the only things keeping a lot of us AV Clubbers here despite the kinjafication.

They really are the epitome of the “benevolent” evil corporate overlords sometimes depicted in dystopian fiction. I fully realize that they’re every bit as destructive as Walmart, probably even moreso. Yet I can never bring myself to hate Amazon the same way I hate Walmart, even though I totally should.

Well, all he said is we don’t have to take his word for it. Not that we couldn’t.

“We need to realign the dilithium hyperflux chamber.”

I agree with everything you stated there except that he apologized. He totally did not apologize. It was a “sorry if you were offended” non-apology.

My argument isn’t “all over the place.” My argument is that anyone telling rape victims to “sit down and shut up,” as you are doing, can just go fuck right off. The fact that you are apparently a rape victim yourself becomes irrelevant the second you start trying to police the way other rape victims express their

Unfortunately, that’s exactly why it won’t happen. We’ll see a few scapegoats sacrificed (and when I call them scapegoats, I’m not suggesting that they’re not guilty, merely that they’re the only ones who will pay for their guilt), but that’s it.

8.4 million of them?! I mean, yeah, reviewers and such were my first thought as well, but the numbers indicate that there are a lot of insane people with bad taste.

Too late to edit my other comment, but I forgot that the other issue I have with your earlier comments, far more importantly than the fact that you’re defending someone who doesn’t need your support, is that you’re employing the modern (but also extremely old) tactic of shutting down people with legitimate grievances

Dude, I’m not condeming Corden for his jokes, as ill advised as they were. But I’m certainly not going to condemn actual rape survivors for lashing out at him for those ill advised jokes, nor will I condemn them for calling him fat. I do apologize for my strident tone with you, but your earlier comments just kind of

Oooooh, Tom Lehrer! Daniel Radcliffe just gained a lot of points in my book. Honestly, this whole interview had that effect, but the Tom Lehrer part definitely made me the happiest.

Ehhh, if you figure he has an exhibitionist leaning and combine that with the very obvious indication that he gets off on throwing his power around, it’s not that hard to fathom. I mean, I have a much harder time understanding how he could bring himself to intimidate people for his sexual kicks than I do his ability
