Yep, Tesla’s system is not much more in practice than adaptive cruise control + lane keeping, but they definitely don’t shut down people who call it self-driving (as in this very article).

Based on his youtube video where he states he wasn’t paying attention to the road on a previous trip, and the fact that he ran into a semi without touching the brake pedal, I’d think it’s safe to assume he wasn’t watching the road at all.
